A petition was filed in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday against Dr Arif Alvi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s nominee for the presidential election accusing him of tempering with the court record pleading the court to refrain him from contesting presidential election. The petition was filed by Azmat Rehan in the court, which Chief Justice SHC took up for review.
The petitioner told the court that Arif Alvi had tempered the court record and the Chief Justice SHC issued an order against Dr Arif Alvi in this regard. Arif Alvi is Co-Trustee of Alvia Trust and also declared himself a trustee in "Salt Bank" at Hawksbay.
The petitioner also accused Dr Alvi of mis-declaration thrice in an undertaking submitted with regard to a case registered against him in 1977 and submitted that a person involved in tempering of court can't be elected as President of Pakistan.
The petitioner prayed the court to refrain Arif Alvi from contesting presidential election. The petitioner made the federal government, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and others as respondents in the petition.
Meanwhile, the SHC bench put off the hearing on contempt of the court petition against K-Electric (KE). The court was moved against KE for not acting upon the orders of the Supreme Court for not resorting to unannounced loadshedding in Karachi. The petition also pleaded action against NEPRA for not implementing the orders of courts regarding unannounced loadshedding.
The KE's counsel pleaded the court that the matter is under hearing in the Supreme Court, which took notice on loadshedding.
The Petitioner's counsel Faisal Siddiqui submitted in the court that this issue is different what the apex court is hearing and said that all parties furnished their replies in the petition. The court, however, adjourned the hearing of the case till September 18 after it was informed that the senior counsel of KE is busy somewhere else and could not appear in today's hearing.
