Denying the role of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in 'controversial' suspension of Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Umar Gondal, Punjab Information Minister Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chohan termed the matter as an internal affair of the Punjab police which, he said, had resolved.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the minister defended the transfer of Gondal saying there were complaints against the DPO. "This was an internal affair of the Punjab police which now stands resolved," the minister said, adding Punjab Inspector General was himself investigating the matter.
Answering a question regarding the use of helicopter by Punjab CM Usman Buzdar, he said Buzdar was entitled to using official helicopter. "Objections would have solid grounds if the chopper was being used by someone else," he added.
When asked about the placement of names of incarcerated Nawaz Sharif and his daughter on the Exit Control List (ECL), Chohan said the PTI government had only followed the law by placing them on the ECL. According to him, the members of the Sharif family were convicted for lying, looting state funds, and involvement in financial corruption. He said placing the names of high-profile convicts on the ECL is a common practice.
It may be noted that DPO Gondal in a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had refused to tender an apology to Khawar Fareed Maneka, the ex-husband of first lady Bushra Imran, for alleged misconduct of his subordinates after they intercepted vehicle of Maneka on August 23 at a picket on Deepalpur Road.
