A 20-year old tribal youth was died of Congo fever in PiroKhel area of LandiKotal, subdivision of Khyber district. Maulana Nisarullah Junaidi, father of deceased told that his son, Salman Shinwari had got fever a week ago and was taken to Peshawar hospitals where the doctors refused to admit him after suspected him infected of fatal disease Congo and referred him to Pakistan Institute of Health Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad, said family and health sources on Saturday. Last day his son died of the disease in Islamabad hospital, they added.
According to deputy director, directorate of Health, FATA, Dr Ashiq received medical tests of the deceased conducted in PIMS that were found Congo positive and the test record was convoyed to the deceased family. As per Agency Surgeon Dr Shafiq, the health directorate and the Khyber district health department had dispatched teams to the village of PiroKhel to investigate, if any suspected case of Congo disease prevailed in the area.
Thoroughly examination of the deceased family members and the neighbours were carried out and asked them to contact them in case of consecutive fever for six to nine days. It is important to state that Khan Haidar, another relative of the deceased have been admitted to Hayat Abad Medical Complex due to constant fever and his medical tests have been sent to Agha Khan Hospital, Karachi, the family sources told.
Death of the youth of Congo virus created panic in the area and the dwellers of LandiKotal stressed upon the health officials to take the matter seriously before it became an epidemic. Public awareness should be created regarding spreading, curing, medicating and protecting of Congo fever, they remarked.
