Thrashing of citizen: SC directs Imran Ali Shah to deposit Rs three million in dam fund
The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday ordered Imran Ali Shah, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s MPA to deposit Rs 3 million in dam fund, created by the apex court for slapping a citizen publicly and disposed of the matter after Shah sought the apology over the incident. A larger bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took up the hearing of the case after it took a suo moto notice of the incident, in which MPA Imran Shah publicly slapped a citizen. The video of this incident went viral, which also compelled PTI's Karachi leadership to take the disciplinary action against humiliating a citizen.
At the onset of the hearing, Chief Justice ordered Imran Shah to come forward and asked, how did he dare to slap a citizen on road". Chiding him, Saqib Niar said that no one even treat the animals the way he meted out treatment to Dawood Chuhan.
Imran Shah sought forgiveness for being ashamed over the incident. "This is unforgivable incident and would not let you go unpunished; Chief Justice remarked and said there is no compensation for hurting the self-respect of a human being.
When Imran Shah told the court that he slapped the citizen four times, CJP retorted, "Why should not be slapped four times here". Saqib Nisar also admonished MPA by saying top judiciary doesn't see who is Shah and who is not. Chief Justice also asked from the victim, Dawood Chuhan why did he accept the compensation. Chauhan told that the Governor-nominated at that time arrived his home and offered to pay the compensation for the act of MPA Imran Shah.
Addressing Imran Shah, Chief Justice said that he could be disqualified under Article 62 (F) and said that who are you to insult the people at roads. Justice Nisar also advised him to learn respect the people. After the break in the hearing of the case, Chief Justice asked about the punishment to the MPA. CJP directed MPA Shah to seek the apology from Dawood Chauhan publicly. Upon the directives of Chief Justice, MPA Imran Shah sought the apology from Dawood Chauhan and also hugged him.
Chief Justice said that he wanted to set an example by teaching those people a lesson, who think themselves above the law. After forgiving MPA Shah, Dawood Chauhan prayed the court to bar him from travelling in big luxury vehicles. Apex Court, however disposed of the matter by ordering MPA to deposit three million rupees in the dam fund, created by Supreme Court to build the new dams in the country.
