The Supreme Court (SC) here on Saturday directed Sindh Government to protect the historical buildings declared as protected sites by archeological department in accordance with the high court's orders.
At Karachi Registry, a three-member bench of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan took up the hearing of a petition filed about protection of historical buildings. Petitioner Yaseen Lari submitted to the court that more than five hundred historical buildings have been declared dangerous in Sindh.
Petitioner prayed the court that issue orders to the relevant authorities for protection of these historical buildings. During the course of hearing, the Chief Justice said that there is an impression that country lacks the talent and we look forward to the foreigners for mega works, who take billions of rupees only for consultancy.
He said the apex court assigned the responsibility of new dams to the country's engineers and said that country has a lot of talent, which need to be exploited. The CJP said that this talent should be utilized for protection of historical sites too.
Accepting the plea of the petitioner, the Chief Justice ordered Sindh Government to take measures for protection of historical sites in lines with the directive of the high court. Meanwhile, taking up the death of four children from expired vaccination of measles, the Supreme Court ordered Sindh Health Department to pay compensation to the families of the deceased children.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case of death of four infants due to expired vaccination. Court was informed that the reports to test this vaccination showed that death was caused due, which passed its expiry date. Court ordered that compensation should be paid to the families of the deceased children and directed Sindh Health Department to pay the compensation in one week time.
