Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a mix trend during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that during the week under review, prices of most of the vegetables and fruits registered a downward trend, prices of ghee/cooking oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) went up, while prices of non-perishable items remained stable.
The survey observed an increase in ghee/cooking oil prices, as 5 liters tin of Dalda was being sold at Rs 950 against Rs 900 and a carton of five liters of ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 900 against Rs 850. Dry milk prices are also likely to go up from the next week as one kilogram pack of Everyday milk was available at Rs 700 but, according to traders, its price will go up to Rs 750 per kg.
According to traders, LPG prices have witnessed significant increase over the past 10 days which have jumped up from Rs 145 per kg to Rs 190 per kg and within the next few months, its price will further escalate.
Prices of all the major pulses remained stable as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 120 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range Rs 80-100 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 80 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg. Sugar price was found stable at Rs 2,620 per 50kg bag which in retail market was being sold at Rs 58 per kg. Packed milk price remained stable at Rs 1,550 per carton and tea price also witnessed no change.
Onions price went down from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 130 per 5kg in the wholesale market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 45 per kg. Gilgat-Baltistan potato price went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 40 per kg, while sweet potato price went up from Rs 80 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 20 per kg. Tomato price witnessed a decline from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg.
Prices of various qualities of garlic remained stable in the range of Rs 300-350 per 5kg to in wholesale market which in retail market were being sold at Rs 70-90 per kg. Ginger price went up from Rs 650 per 5kg to Rs 750 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 170-180 per kg against Rs 150-160 per kg. Lemon price went down from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 100-120 per kg.
Live chicken price remained stable at Rs 3,800 per 40kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs110-120 per kg and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 170 per kg. The eggs prices remained stable in wholesale and retail market at Rs 85 per dozen and Rs 95 per dozen respectively.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 380 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, taro (arvi) price further went down from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35-40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, Chinese carrot prices went up from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 220 per 5kg while in retail market was being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
Bean price further went down from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg against Rs 80-85 per kg, okra price further went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg, and price of ridge gourd (tori) went up from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg against Rs 40-45 per kg.
Turnip price went further down from Rs 170 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 40-45 per kg, Maroo kaddu price remained stable at Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg, and loki kaddu was available at Rs 150 per kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 40 per kg.
Various forms of tinda were available at Rs 160-200 per 5kg, while in retail market they were being sold at Rs 40-50 per kg. Cauliflower price remained stable at Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 75 per kg and cabbage price went down from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 175 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 80 per kg.
Brinjal price further went down from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 90 per 5kg in wholesale market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 40 per kg, peas price went down from Rs 650 per 5kg to Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100-110 per kg against Rs 150-160 per kg, cucumber price went down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg. Karela (bitter gourd) price went up from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 270 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 40-45 per kg.
Fruit prices remained stable as Gaja apple was available at Rs 60-75 per kg, local good quality banana at Rs 75 per dozen and normal quality apple was being sold in the range of Rs 45-60 per dozen. Good quality guava was being sold at Rs 55 per kg and normal quality was available in the range of Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 50-60 per kg.
Best quality mangoes were being sold in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, while normal quality mangoes were available in the range of Rs 70-90 per kg. Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 250-300 per kg. Various qualities of peaches were available in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg, plump at Rs 120-150 per kg and various qualities of grapes were being sold at Rs 100-200 per kg. Sweet orange was available at Rs 80-100 per kg, Quetta apricot at Rs 80-100 per kg, Chinese pear at Rs 140-180 per kg and Pakistani pear at Rs 75 per kg.
