Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet Wednesday decided to abolish Ehtesab Commission in the province. Talking to newsmen after provincial cabinet meeting, spokesman for the government Shaukat Yousafzai said that there was no need for Ehtesab Commission.
The KP Ehtesab Commission was established by PTI-led previous coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after expressing no confidence in the performance of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). However, it miserably failed o deliver and become a liability on the provincial exchequer.
"The government decided to abolish the Ehtesab Commission. The cabinet decided that anti-corruption department would be activated at province, division and district level," Yousafzai told while briefing the newsmen after a meeting of the provincial cabinet. The cabinet also formed committee for police and local government reforms in tribal districts, which have been merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief Minister Mahmood Khan chaired the provincial cabinet meeting. The cabinet also decided to make amendments in relevant laws for police reforms and speedy and cheap justice system in the province. The cabinet also formed a committee for civil service reforms, which would be headed by chief minister.
The provincial cabinet also decided award contract of Chasma Right Canal project to a Chinese company, which would $1.2 billion. The project would help resolve the water supply problem in southern districts.
