Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday met with Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar here at the Supreme Court building and presented a cheque of Rs 1,005.919 million as donation for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Fund.
General Bajwa also presented a letter containing details of collections. The letter says; "It gives me immense pleasure to share with you that the Supreme Court's decision regarding construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohammad Dams has been well received by the Pakistan Army. In order to support the national cause, all ranks have contributed. The army officers, including civilian officers, paid out two days pay, while junior commissioned officers/soldiers and civilians paid one day pay."
The letter further states: "Pakistan Army's welfare organizations have also voluntarily made contribution for this cause. In sum, I am pleased to intimate that an accumulated amount of over Rs 1 billion has been collected and is being deposited in the Supreme Court Diamer-Bhasha and Mohammad Dams Funds."
"Pak Army shall continue to contribute towards nation building as a national institution," the ISPR quoted the army chief as saying.
Separately, addressing the opening ceremony of Judicial Year 2018- 2019 at the Courtroom no. 1, the Chief Justice said one of the biggest feats of the Supreme Court of Pakistan was the direction to the government of Pakistan to immediately begin construction of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams in order to address the issue of water scarcity and security that Pakistan currently faces.
"We were overwhelmed by the nation's response in the form of generous donations for this national cause and the confidence the nation placed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan." The total amount in the Supreme Court Dams Fund till September 10, 2018 is Rs 2,018,005,908.
