Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan on Thursday nominated Amir Waliuddin Chishti its candidate for NA-243 in bye-election scheduled next month. Prime Minister Imran Khan won NA-243 in general elections held on July 25 by registering a thumping victory against his rivals while MQM Pakistan's Ali Raza Abidi was runner-up.
Imran Khan opted to retain NA-95, his home constituency by vacating the four national assembly seats including NA-243 Karachi. MQM Pakistan, which is now a coalition partner of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government in Centre, has decided to field Amir Waliuddin Chishti in NA-243 bye-election as its candidate in Coordination Committee meeting held at Bahadurabad Markaz.
"The decision to nominate Amir Chishti as MQM's candidate in NA-243 was taken unanimously in the meeting of coordination committee," the party announced. Ali Raza Abidi, the party candidate against Imran Khan in general election on NA-243 reportedly developed differences with MQM-Pakistan after it emerged that the party was not awarding him the ticket in bye-election. Abidi resigned from the membership of the party few days back.
