Emir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq Monday expressed resentment over the government's failure to fulfill its promise of constituting a parliamentary commission to investigate alleged rigging in the general election.
"It is remorseful that the government could not fulfill its promise to form the parliamentary commission by September 12 to undertake the massive pre-poll and post-poll rigging," he said while talking to media persons outside the Parliament House.
He said that not only all the opposition parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), but the government allies Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) also demanded to form a parliamentary committee to probe allegations of rigging in the general election.
Siraj said that he is unable to understand as to why National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not starting legal process against 150 mega corruption cases wherein all the investigation has been done.
He maintained that after the revelation of Panama Papers, the Jamaat-e-Islami knocked the doors of the Supreme Court and sought accountability of all the people involved in corruption but almost after a year the court has not taken up the cases against 450 other persons named in the Panama Leaks.
The Jamaat-e-Islami emir said that properties belonging to Pakistani national worth billions of dollars are in foreign countries as well as billions of dollars are stashed in banks abroad, adding that the government should bring back this plundered money. If the government is successful in bringing back money of Pakistanis, it will enable the government of Pakistan to provide relief to the masses by not increasing prices of gas, electricity and petrol as well as getting rid of the International Monetary Fund's clutches.
He said that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue struggle for accountability of all and a corruption-free Pakistan. "We demand to bring all those to justice who have made properties worth billions of dollars in UAE, Switzerland and other countries. We have to come out of the delusional state wherein if a person of my party is involved in corruption, he is good while corrupt people of other parties are bad," he added.
He said that the election was marred by misconduct including not providing form 45, slow pace polling, issuing results on normal papers and an outstanding 1.6 million votes were rejected. He said that the cases were also lodged against 16,800 workers of his party on different charges including terrorism.
The Jamaat-e-Islami emir said that resolves made by the President can be exercised. He demanded a roadmap from the government for freedom of Kashmir and eradication of corruption and riba (interest).
"For establishment of peace, eradication of interest on loan is prerequisite. The country cannot make development without enhancing the economy," he said.
Seeking same application of the law on the people of every status, he said that there are separate laws being applied for common man and the powerful in the country.
To a query, Siraj said that he considered it appropriate to listen to the President's address. He said the PML-N had proposed not to stage protest during the joint parliamentary session.
