Representatives of several villages in Arandu area of Chitral district have demanded power supply to their localities from the 108- megawatt GolenGol Hydropower Project to facilitate people and overcome the massive deforestation. Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday an elder Haji Sultan appreciated the government for completing work on the hydro power project and connecting it with national grid, saying that this project would play significant role in development of Chitral.
Sultan, who is also Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf councilor, was representing residents of many villages said that Arandu valley had many villages where power supply was yet to be given. The area, he said was located at the Pak-Afghan border which was strategically very important from defence and trade point of view.
He said that Chitral had very rich of natural resources including forest, mines, mineral but it had been kept deprived of the power supply from the 108-megawatt GolenGol Hydropower Project. He said that government had allotted about 30-megawatt electricity for Chitral where only eight megawatt was in use and rest of it was kept reserved.
