NTISB warns government departments for intercepting sensitive official communication
National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) has warned the government departments, which are close to Diplomatic Enclave, about activities of hostile spy agencies for intercepting official sensitive communication.
Through a letter dated September 11, the NTISB has cautioned the government departments located in close vicinity of Diplomatic Enclave, which hosts embassies of the foreign countries, that modern interception solutions available in the world are capable to monitor cellular voice/ SMS) communication of target area of interest.
"Hostile intelligence agencies have reportedly deployed these solutions in Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad, to intercept cellular communication of own personnel deputed on sensitive assignments," the letter mentioned.
It also instructed the concerned government departments to take measures to minimize the threat of interception of the official sensitive communications. In order to minimize the threat, the letter stated: "It is requested that all departments located in close vicinity of Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad, be cautioned on following aspects".
"Avoid discussing sensitive and classified official information on mobile telephones. Always keep mobile data option to 3G/LTE. Avoid use of SMS for passage of sensitive and classified information. Make maximum use of landline telephones for personal interaction for discussing sensitive or classified issues," the letter added.
