Local bodies system

The importance of the lowest tier of governance - local bodies - cannot be denied or contested; nor can it be underestimated because the idea of local government is channeled towards bringing the government closer to the people. That is why perhaps Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday directed for finalisation of the Local Bodies System within next 48 hours. The prime minister has made it clear that devolution of power at the grass-roots level is the most important agenda of the PTI government. The objective behind this agenda is to empower the local people in the real sense. It is therefore good to note that the prime minister observed that besides, devolution of power at the grass-roots level, effective public accountability of the elected representatives would be ensured. That Imran has deep trust in local bodies system is a fact. In his youth or during his stay in the UK he had witnessed the performance of this system. That is why he is quite confident that the local bodies system would remove the status quo as it would give rise to the new leadership. Let's build up institutions such as local bodies for the general good of people in the country.
