Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon took oath as the sixth Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan here on Sunday. Chief Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court Justice Javaid Iqbal administered oath to the governor. Chief Secretary Baber Hayat Tarad read out the Presidential Order of his appointment.
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafeez-ur-Rehman, members of the provincial cabinet, representatives from the armed and civil services and Inspector General Police attended the event. The new governor was Pakistna Tehreek-e-Insaf President Gilgit Baltistan before his appointment as Governor. He contested election in 2014 for the Gilgit-Baltistan legislative Assembly from Skardu but could not win. Chief Minister Hafeez-ur-Rehman congratulated Jalal Hussain Maqpoon on becoming the governor of the province and expressed his best wishes.
