The government has initiated a disciplinary action against Pakistan's High Commissioner in London Sahibzada Ahmad Khan and decided to replace him. Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, while responding a question during his weekly media briefing on Thursday confirmed that an inquiry against the high commissioner has been concluded following a controversial video involving him went viral last month. "Our high commissioner in London has been reprimanded and action is being taken against him," he said.
Sources, however, said that the High Commissioner in London has been called back to the headquarters who will be replaced with another diplomat, adding that a few names including Johar Saleem, Nughmana Hashmi and Zaheer Janjua are being considered for the post.
The spokesperson also shared the details of the probes against some other diplomats and officers in missions abroad. In Bulgaria, he said there was a report of embezzlement and a special fact-finding officer was sent to investigate the issue.
"The accountant concerned has accepted responsibility for the embezzlement. On his return, his name will be given to NAB," he said, adding the auditor general has been requested to do a special audit of the Mission. He said that ambassador in Bulgaria has been called to Pakistan to assist the investigation.
Regarding Pakistan's High Commissioner in South Africa, he said that the case is sub judice, adding that the high commissioner's travel to Pakistan is in line with relevant rules. In the case of Portugal, he said that misinformation was circulated about Ambassador Leena. An inquiry was undertaken which exonerated her, after which she was sent to Belarus by the previous government, he added.
