Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that arrest of President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is just the beginning of a process of justice with more to follow in coming days. Talking to media persons after the arrest of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and former Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, the information minister hinted at more arrests.
The minister said, "Shehbaz Sharif's arrest is the first, and more 'major' arrests are also expected in the coming days." While terming the arrest of the former chief minister Punjab a big step by the NAB, he welcomed the act, vowing federal government's all-out cooperation to the Bureau.
"The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has zero tolerance policy against corruption. The process of accountability will move further," he added.
Chaudhry said, "The NAB arrested Shehbaz Sharif in the case registered in his government's tenure. There are allegations of over Rs 56 billion embezzlement in Aashiana Housing Scheme and the anti-graft body arrested the PML-N president over these charges."
The government is completely impartial in all such matters; however, whatever assistance the NAB requires, the government will provide it. "The NAB is an independent body and the government does not control it," he pointed out.
