The Fata Secretariat has launched Birth Registration Program (BRP) in Bajaur tribal district aimed to make easy the issuance of birth certificates to the children between ages of 18 years in the district.
Ziaur Rehman, the district coordinator of Birth Registration Program (BRP), told reporter here on Saturday that the program was a joint venture of Fata Secretariat and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to record the children of the district. He said that it was the first ever children registration program in Bajaur tribal district which was initially for one year and would likely to extend till 2014. During the one year long activities, the official said that about 58 thousands children of different areas of the district would be registered and issue birth certificates as well. He pointed out that the program was a part of Fata-KP merged plan to introduce a proper and effective registration of children in the tribal district as the lack of said facility in the region have caused a lot of problems in getting birth certificates of their children.
He said that such program has already introduced in every districts of the province and local government was responsible for issuing birth certificate to the children. However, the program was not been introduce in the tribal districts owing to absence of local government in the region. He said that all out arraignments have been finalized in this regard and popper registration of children was likely to launch from Monday. About registration process, Rehman said that besides the staff, a number of volunteers from several areas have been haired for the purpose who will visit every house of their areas to get data of the children.
Besides, door to door visit, the official said that the team members would also go to schools, religious seminaries, hospitals and others public places to obtain the required data of the children up to 18 years. After collecting data from the family, the BRP official said that the elder of the relevant area would verify them before issuing birth registration certificate to the children. He said that all the staff and volunteers have been imported the required trainings and they will easily conduct the drive. He told that they have also informed the tribal elders, religious leaders, political workers and others influential people of the community across the district about the importance of the program through consultation meetings. He said that people from all walks of life have assured them of their full support and cooperation in the registration process.
He added that they have also held consultative meetings with senior officials of the local administration and all line departments and they assured their full support to make the program successful. He said he was confidence to face no problem in collecting of data of children during the drive, adding that the health and education department have promised to help them in providing data of children.
About the significance of birth registration program, the official said that it would not only help the children to get their birth certificate at their door step, but was also aimed to record maximum data of the children in the district. Highlighting the importance of birth certificate, Rehman said that it was the most vital documents for the children which have very importance in the entire world.
