Local police Wednesday arrested former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi accused of using insulting and derogatory remarks against the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Abidi was arrested after he appeared before the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case.
During the course of hearing, he prayed to the court to adjourn the case till his lawyer returns back to the country after performing Umrah or grant him some time to hire a new counsel. The apex court approved his request and adjourned the hearing till October 30 and issued a notice to the attorney general regarding the matter.
When he left the apex court and was crossing Constitution Avenue to reach his residence; he was arrested by police. The police registered a case against Abidi on the complaint of ASI Shaukat Abbasi under the section 7ATA and charges of defamation.
Abbasi in his complaint stated that Abidi used insulting and derogatory language against the Chief Justice in a TV interview which not only defamed judiciary but also lowered the dignity of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
