Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has told a Senate panel that action is being taken against the officials responsible for failure of Result Transmission System (RTS) in the light of concerns and apprehensions expressed by the lawmakers.
Senator Sassui Palijo chaired the meeting of the Senate Committee on Parliamentary Affairs here on Wednesday. The committee was informed that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) spent Rs 180 million to design this IT programme. It was also informed that around 200 applications for recount of votes were received; however, no application was received regarding Forum-45.
The members of the committee expressed their displeasure over the failure of RTS and demanded more autonomy for the ECP. The committee was further informed that dual nationals can also cast their votes in general election. The committee also approved 'The Elections (Amendment) Bill 2018' laid in the House by Senator Syed Shibli Faraz.
