The anti-terrorism court (ATC) admin judge Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad on Friday issued death warrants of Imran Ali - the man convicted for the rape and murder of a seven-year-old Zainab of Kasur city. Imran, who was awarded 21 counts of death in the case, will be executed on October 17 (Wednesday) at the Central Jail in Lahore. His mercy appeal has also been rejected by the President of Pakistan.
It may be recalled that seven-year-old Zainab was kidnapped from near her aunt's house in Kasur on January 4 last year and was found dead in a garbage heap five days later. The heinous crime had shocked the nation as it was the twelfth such case in Kasur district in a short span of time.
On January 23, the authorities nabbed Imran, the serial killer involved in other such crimes, through a DNA match. According to the police, Imran's DNA also matched samples taken from seven other minor girls who were abused and murdered earlier in Kasur.
On February 2017, ATC handed down death penalty to Imran on four counts he was found guilty in rape and murder of Zainab. On June 12, Supreme Court (SC) turned down his final plea against death sentence in rape cum murder case of Zainab.
