An Accountability Court hearing corruption cases against the Sharif family members on Friday adjourned the hearing of the Flagship Investment reference without any proceedings when it was informed that both the lead defense counsel and head of prosecution team are busy in the Supreme Court.
At the start of hearing of the Flagship Investment reference, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor Waqas Malik and associates of lead defense counsel Khawaja Haris informed the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik that the head of NAB prosecution team Akram Qureshi and defense counsel Khawaja Haris are busy in the apex court in the hearing of a petition seeking more time for the accountability court to conclude the trial of two corruption references against the Sharif family.
Former Premier Nawaz Sharif was also present in the courtroom during the hearing. Haris' associate requested the court that statement of Wajid Zia, prosecution witness and head of joint investigation team (JIT) that probed the Panama Papers case, be recorded in the presence of Khawaja Haris.
The NAB prosecutor also told the court that Advocate Akram Qureshi will make a statement about closure of evidence in the Al-Azizia reference and statement of Zia should be recorded in his presence. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till October 15 and asked NAB to make a statement about the closure of evidence during the next hearing.
At the start of hearing, the associate of defense counsel filed an application before the court requesting to summon the prosecution witness and NAB investigation officer Mehboob Alam again as they want to ask some questions from him about prosecution witnesses Muhammad Tayyab, Razaq and Noreen Shehzadi. Following the request of the prosecution, the court fixed the application for arguments during the next hearing.
