'Imran wave' subsides?

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were neck and neck on 11 National Assembly seats, projecting to win four each in the bye-elections held on Sunday, according to the unofficial and unverified results.
According to the Result Transmission System (RTS) of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), of the 11 National Assembly's seats, PTI and PML-N are so far leading in four constituencies each while Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) was declared winner of two National Assembly constituencies, till filling of this report.
In setback to the PTI, the party lost from NA-131 (Lahore-IX) which was vacated by Imran Khan as PML-N candidate Khawaja Saad Rafique secured 60,while PTI's 352 Humayun Akther Khan got 50,155.
In another setback to the ruling PTI, the party lost from NA-35, Bannu, which was vacated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, as MMA's candidate Zahid Durrani, son of former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani, was leading with 20,066 votes against PTI's Nasim Ali Shah with 13,110 votes.
NA-53, Islamabad, another seat vacated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, was however retained by the party as its candidate Ali Nawaz Awam was leading with 27,946 votes against PML-N's Waqar Ahmed who bagged 15,510 votes.
In NA-56 (Attock-II), left vacated by PTI's Tahir Sadiq, the unofficial and unverified results brought a setback as PML-N's Malik Sohail Khan was leading with 58903 votes, followed by PTI's Malik Khurram Ali with 39498 votes.
In NA-60, Rawalpindi, PTI's candidate Sheikh Rashid Shafique, the nephew of Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid, was leading with 29105 votes, followed by PML-N's Sajjad Khan with 28,292 votes, as per the unofficial and unverified results.
In NA-63 Rawalpindi-VII, vacated by PTI's Ghulam Sarwar Khan, the party's candidate Mansoor Hayat Khan was leading with 59,922 votes followed by PML-N's Aqeel Malik with 37,187 votes, according to the unofficial results.
NA-65, Chakwal-II, vacated by PML-Q Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and the party candidate Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the son of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was declared as the winner with 98,364 votes while Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP's) candidate Mohammad Yaqoob was the runner up secured 34,811 votes.
From NA-124 (Lahore-II), according to the unofficial results, PML-N's Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was declared as the winner with 75012 votes followed by PTI's Ghulam Mohiuddin, who bagged 30115 votes.
From NA-243 (Karachi East-II), according to unofficial results, PTI's Mohammad Alamgir Khan was leading with 35,727 votes against Amir Waliuddin Chishtee of MQM-P who bagged 15113 votes.
From NA-69 Gujrat-II, PML-Q's Moonis Ilahi, son of Speaker Punjab Assembly Pervaiz Elahi, was leading with 59922 votes followed by Imran Zafar of PML-N with 37187 votes.
From NA-103 (Faisalabad-III), PML-N's Ali Gohar Khan was leading with 46555 votes against PTI's Mohammad Saddullah who was runner-up with 38607 votes, as per the unofficial results.
In Punjab Provincial Assembly, according to the unofficial and unverified results, there was a neck and neck competition between the ruling PTI and opposition PML-N, as both the parties were leading on five seats each. Two independent candidates were also leading in the race.
Form PP-3, PTI's Mohammad Akbar Khan was leading with 37782 votes against PML-N's Iftikhar Ahmed Khan. From PP-87, PTI's Malik Ahmad Khan was elected unopposed.
From PP-103, PML-N's Jafar Ali was leading with 25074 votes against PTI's Shamsher Haider, as the results were still coming from various polling stations till filing of this report.
From PP-118, Independent candidate Chaudhary Bilal Asghar was leading with 56316 votes against PTI's Asad Zaman, as per the unofficial results.
From PP-164, Sohail Shaukat Butt of PML-N was leading with 32645 votes against PTI PTI's Yousuf Ali.
From PP-165, PML-N's Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar was declared as the winner by bagging 28589 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results. PTI's Mohammad Mansha Sindhu was runner-up up with 23149 votes.
From PP-201, PTI's Samsam Bukhari won with 58390 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results followed by PML-N's Mohammad Tufail who secured 51622 votes.
From PP-222, independent candidate Qasim Abbas Khan was leading with 38539 votes followed by PTI's Sohail Ahmed Noon with 31893 votes.
From PP-261, PTI's Fawaz Ahmed was leading with 29526 votes followed by PPP's Makhdoom Hassan Raza Hashim, who bagged 14995 votes.
From PP-272, PTI's Zahra Batool was leading with 24019 votes followed by independent candidate Syed Haroon Ahmed Sultan.
From PP-292, PML-N's Sardar Awais Leghari won 33776 votes, unofficial and unconfirmed results suggested. PTI's Sardar Maqsood Laghari stood runner up with 21938 votes.
From Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI was leading with five seats followed by Awami National Party with three and PML-N with one, the unofficial and unverified results suggest.
From PK-3, PML-N's Sardar Khan was leading with 16824 votes followed by PTI's Sajid Ali with 15911 votes.
From PK-7, ANP's Waqar Ahmad Khan won by-polls securing 14096 votes followed by PTI's Fazal Maula with 13425 votes.
PK-44, PTI's Aqibullah Khan was leading with 19505 votes followed by ANP's Ghulam Hassan, who secured 17067 votes.
From PK-53, ANP's Ahmed Khan won with 19065 votes followed by PTI's Muhammad Abdul Salam who stood runner-up with 19044 votes.
From PK-61, PTI's Mohammad Ibrahim Khattak won by attaining 14557 votes. He was followed by ANP's Noor Alam Khan with 9282 votes.
From PK-64, PTI's Liaquat Khan won by securing 22775 votes while ANP's Mohammad Shahid bagged 9560 votes. From PK-78, ANP's Samar Haroon Bilour won 20916 votes followed by PTI's Muhammad Irfan Abdul Salman with 16819 votes.
From PK-97, PTI's Faisal Amin Khan won by securing 19236 votes, while PPP's Farhan Afzal Malik secured 7609 votes.
From PK-99, PTI's Aghaz Ikramullah Gandapur won by securing 30330 votes while independent candidate Fatehullah Khan stood runner-up with 22825 votes.
PPP has been succeeded to clinch both Sindh provincial assembly seats from Karachi, as the party candidates Syed Ahmad Shah Jillani from PS-30 was declared as the winner by securing 35749 votes and Mohammad Sajid from PS-87 with 22654 votes, according to unofficial and unverified results.
In Balochistan provincial assembly, independent candidate Nawaz Mohammad Aslam Khan Raisani was declared as the winner with 12414 votes from PB-35 while BNP candidate Mohammad Ajmal was elected with 23742 votes from PB-40.
For the first time, over 86 percent of registered i-voters cast their ballots in by-polls. Out of 7,364 registered overseas Pakistani through i-voting, 6,233 cast their voters, according to the officials of ECP.
They stated that 5,117 i-voters cast their votes for National Assembly seats on which the by-elections were held while as many as 1,116 i-voters cast their ballots for elections on provincial assembly seats.
According to officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the authority has foiled 1200 hacking attacks on the internet voting system introduced for the overseas Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote.
Polling was held in a peaceful environment across the country, as strict security measures were put in place. Strict security arrangements were made in all the constituencies, as ECP had announced the deployment four personnel of Pakistan army inside and outside of each polling station to ensure free and fair elections. Security cameras were also installed at sensitive polling stations including 35 polling stations in Balochistan, 201 in Sindh, 544 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 848 in Punjab, according to ECP officials.
A total of 51,235 polling personnel were deployed in all the constituencies to ensure smooth, fair and free elections with over 28,000 personnel of Pakistan army and Rangers in addition to police personnel to avert any untoward incident.
The polling continued from 8am to 5pm without any break while voters were not allowed to bring their mobile phones and digital cameras inside the polling stations.
Media: Reports were receiving from various constituencies where media personnel were not allowed to enter the polling stations. It was contrary to the July 25, general elections when media persons allowed to enter the polling stations and witness the polling process. Turn out remained low in almost all the constituencies while there were also reports coming from constituencies such as in Chakwal where female voters at six polling stations did not come to cast their votes. Taking notice of the situation, the ECP issued show-cause notice to all candidates in the constituency.
