For bringing green revolution in economy, KP government has allocated Rs 5.645 billion for water reservoir projects for the financial year 2018-19.
KP Minister for Finance, Taimoor Khan Jhagra has presented the eight-month budget for the financial year 2018-19 during special budget session, presided over by the Provincial Assembly Speaker, Mushtaq Ghani, here on Monday.
Agriculture is the backbone of economy contributing 25% to GDP and 44% of the labour force is employed as such any investment tin water sector helps in poverty alleviation. For bringing green revolution in economy of the province, the provincial government has given top priority to the water sector and enhanced the budget allocation, said the budget documents.
The documents further said water can't be generated, however it can be preserved for future requirements. Developed nations try to conserve each and every drop of water available to them because they are aware of the fact that if this commodity is not prudently preserved and used, the human survival itself would be jeopardized and future wars would be fought for its possession and control.
Keeping in view the aforementioned requirements, and circumstances, in the budget for fiscal year 2018-19, an amount of Rs 5645 million for 175 projects has been allocated out of which 171 are ongoing with allocation of Rs 5643.997 million and four are new with allocation of Rs 1.003 million.
The projects included construction of Barawai Irrigation Scheme in Tehsil Matta, District Swat, F/S of Nakai Dam, District Nowshera and Construction of Chamak Maira Dam, District Abbottabad, National Flood Protection Plan (NFPP-IV) Phase-I, construction of flood protection works and irrigation channels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
