Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Monday failed to reply the questions asked by the members of the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination. The committee met here with Senator Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar in the chair at the Parliament House and discussed matters relating to the Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Cricket Board and National Internship Programme.
The committee has also directed the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination to formulate a uniform policy to improve the standard of games in the country.
The committee was told that Pakistan is at 34th position out of 37th countries in sports at international level.
The secretary and the other officials of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination could not satisfy the members of the committee when they raised questions about the standard of games in the country. The secretary told the committee that he joined the ministry one month ago and will reply to the questions of the members in detail during the next meeting.
However, he added that the subject has been devolved to the provinces after passage of the 18th Amendment. He said that despite passage of six months, the DG Sports hasn't been appointed. He said that the ministry is working to formulate a policy for sports and the task force constituted by the Prime Minister is monitoring it.
Director Domestic Cricket, Haroon Rashid told the committee that there are a total of 938 employees of Pakistan Cricket Board. He said that there are over 400 permanent employees, 227 are working on temporary basis, one is on deputation, number of regional staff is 252, scrutiny committee has six members, selection committee has 19 members, and 33 are contractual employees.
The chairman committee directed the ministry to formulate a comprehensive policy to improve games in the country and submit a report in this regard in the next meeting of the committee.
