On the eve of general election, which is scheduled to be held today (October 20) in Afghanistan, the Afghan government on Friday suspended Pak-Afghan sharing border Torkham for all kind of movement for two days. The Afghan border security officials at Torkham border said that due to security reasons, the border was closed for two days (Friday and Saturday) for vehicle as well as pedestrian crossing.
However, he added that exemption should be granted to patients to cross the border, in addition permission would be given of transportation of dead bodies from either side of the border, he added. According to the Torkham administration officials, the Pak border security forces also adopted extra-security measures at the border to avoid any untoward incident. All trading, clearing and travelling activities halted at the border, Torkham custom official told.
