During a province-wide crackdown on Friday against adulterated milk, the Punjab Food Authority discarded 15,833 liters of milk in various parts of Punjab. A PFA also unearthed another cold store in the surrounding areas of Gujranwala and seized more than 210,000 rotten eggs. The operation was carried out after six days of careful observations made by the vigilance cell of the Authority.
According to the Authority's sources, its teams put up dozens of screening pickets on entry and exit points for inspection of the quality of milk in each district of Punjab. The teams discarded 5,751 liters tainted milk being carried on 37 vehicles from different farmhouses and factories. Throughout the province, the PFA discarded a total of 15,833 liters adulterated milk whereas samples for screening tests were taken from 313,000 liters of milk present in 1,929 vehicles. The milk was discarded over proved contamination of harmful chemicals, powder, polluted water, urea and water.
Meanwhile, inspection teams unearth a store having rotten eggs near Gujranwala. All the seized putrid eggs were wasted at the dumping site Lakhodar. So far, the food regulatory body had dumped more than three million rotten eggs after confiscating from various cities of Punjab including Lahore, Chichawatni, Sahiwal, and Sheikhupura.
Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhry praised the efforts of Punjab Food Authority. He said the PFA has developed and implemented a comprehensive policy on the permanent ban of hatchery eggs.
