The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Karachi Chapter on Saturday sought a judicial commission to probe the privatization and twice sale of K-Electric with broadening the investigation into last PML-government's intriguing ties with Abraj group.
Speaking at a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Chief of JI Karachi, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman demanded a judicial commission to see the entire controversial process of K-Electric privatization with an agreement of its twice sale-off. He said that the last PML-N government is cited in media reports to have a link with the Abraj group in its sale-off.
He said the proposed commission should also deepen its probe into K-Electric's forensic audit to show the exact financial fraud of the power supplying company. He said that the state should take the power supplying company into its custody, adding that the K-Electric has left no opportunity to fleece and traumatize the public since its controversial privatization.
"CJP Justice Saqib Nisar is requested to hold a proceeding on Jamaat-e-Islami's petition filed in this connection in a bid to save the country's from further financial loss," JI Chief, Hafiz Naeem appealed, saying that the hearing by the apex court will also help redeem the public from further going into agony at the hands of K-Electric.
He also warned the PTI government of a resistance if K-Electric was permitted to increase the power tariffs, saying that the power supplying company that fetches Rs 40 billion annually without providing any relief to the citizens has unjustified to scale up the rates of electricity. He also asked the premier, Imran Khan to assure his efforts in setting up the proposed judicial commission to end the public agony.
He said that Abraj group had to carry out about $361 million investment to improve distribution system and increase the power generation up to 1200 megawatts, but it never complied with its agreement of 2009. The Abraj group also owes Rs 200 billion of the citizens, which it has to pay off. The national exchequer facilities the K-Electric enjoyed with Rs 75 billion of subsidy a year since 2009.
