The employees of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) Tuesday continued their sit-in against the federal government for the second consecutive day and vowed not to end their protest unless all their demands are met.
Hundreds of employees of USC have gathered at D-Chowk-a place where Chairman PTI Imran Khan staged 126-day sit-in against the then Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government-from all over the country to protest against the likely closure of USC outlets and demand job regularisation.
The USC employees urged the government to settle Rs 27.6 billion subsidy claims pending for the last seven years, which is creating a financial crunch for the corporation, leading to its possible closure.
They also demanded that contractual employees should be regularised and their wages and salaries be increased, and said the utility stores throughout the country will remain shut from Tuesday until their demands are accepted.
The employees said that they would continue to protest until their demands are met, adding a day earlier negotiations with PTI leader Naeemul Haq failed despite assurance that all their demands would be met and no employee would be laid off.
