Highways, motorways in Punjab: Foreign firms invited to set up economic zones
Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has invited foreign companies to set up economic and industrial zones along the highways and motorways in Punjab. He made this offer while talking to the representatives of a Chinese company who called on him on Thursday. He said new economic and industrial zones will play an important role in uplifting all the surrounding areas. He told the representatives the Punjab government will welcome foreign investment; international companies will be given projects on Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. "The investors should earn profit but foreign investment should ultimately benefit the Punjab and its masses," he added.
He assured the foreign investors that they will be given complete security and cooperation so they can work in a sector of their choice. "Transparent and crystal clear system will be adopted while undertaking new projects in Punjab," he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister has convened a joint meeting of foreign companies and different government departments this Saturday which will try to find ways to start joint ventures on different projects. He directed that in the next meeting the Punjab Chief Secretary, Planning and Department Chairman, and Secretaries of Finance and Communication and Works Departments should also be invited. He further asked the concerned officials to bring the Board of Investment Punjab under the Planning and Development Department so that matters could be expedited.
