The winning spree of both Pakistan WAPDA and Army continued on the second day of the ongoing 14th National Women Volleyball Championship being played at PSB Coaching Center here Thursday. Strong WAPDA, having services of some veteran players, recorded victory against young Sindh team in straight sets 3-0 while Army overpowered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-0 in another one-sided affair. The two giants are so far remained unbeaten in their respective groups A and B.
WAPDA team comprising Madiha, Asma, Shabeena, Zeenat, Shadia, Sherish, Fozia, Rabia, Shadia, Shaabana, Samreen, Nazia and Shakila, Irum and Atiya played like a rock, giving no time to Sindh to settle down. The two strong smashers Madiha and Zeenat along with setter Fozia on the right and Rabia on the left played a pivotal role in steering team to victory.
Sindh players have some good show and smashes by Faryal, Shafia with the help of Yosra and Komal but Wapda two blockerts Shabeena and Shadia played well and blocked the smashes at the net. Wapda got the first set by 25-18. The set was also tied at 5-5, 6-6, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 14-14 and 18 all but overall Wapda dominated the proceedings and won the set quite comfortably.
It was the second set in which Sindh got the lead of 0-4 points and also 2-7 but Wapda came back strongly by leveling the set at 4-4 and then at 7-7. The score was also tied at 8-8, 12-12, 15-15, 16-16 and WAPDA raced up to victory at 25-16.
The Sindh team comprising Lubna, Faryal, Shafia, Yosra, Komal, Syeda, Nazia, Farah, Aqsa, Ahwan, Noreena, Sarah also played well in third set and were nearing to victory but Wapda players did not lost their determination and despite in deficit staged a strong comeback by winning the set 25-21. It was a good show of the Sindh and Wapda players in the third set.
In the second match Army team including Azra, Muqadas, Neelam, Aysha, Anam, Smiya, Saba, Amina, Tayeeba, Kasmala, Saba played well and did not give much time to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team comprising Maria, Iqra, Amber, Moniza, Javeria, Aysia, Anooda, Akzoba Bibi, Mehwish to strike back. Army defeated KP by 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17. Azra and Mudadas with setter Neelam played well as they showered some forceful spikings.
In the third match Punjab beat Balochistan by 3-0, the score was 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21. Punjab players dominated the proceedings but Balochistan also played well and gave a tough time to Punjab team. In the fourth match Higher Education Commission (HEC) beat Azad Jammu and Kashmir by 3-0.
HEC players played well against Azad Jammu and Kashmir and also faced some resistance, especially in the third set when AJK was leading by 3-9, 7-13 and 12-18. Despite in deficit of points HEC played well and marched into victory at 25-21 before leveling the set at 9-9, 13-13 and 18-18. The set was also tied at 21-21 when HEC secured victory at 25-21 in the last set.
