Federal Law Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem Friday said that the government is working on a new anti-corruption law aiming to end corruption from all levels in the country. Addressing a press conference here, Naseem said that the new anti-corruption law is being prepared in collaboration with all the stakeholders which will replace the present laws. He said that there exists a need to end every kind of corruption. The government is working on the new law and it will be presented soon, the federal minister said.
Naseem mentioned that the federal government has drafted a legislation to guard the whistle blowers. "The Whistle Blowers Safety Act, 2018 will probably be tabled in all provincial assemblies and the Parliament for approval soon," he added.
Naseem said that a 'whistle-blower' reporting against corruption will be rewarded and the person will receive 20 percent of the recovered amount. He said that no politics should be done on the legislation against corruption and the government needs the public cooperation in this regard.
"The recommendations will be made a part of the legislation after complete consultation," said Naseem.
He further said that an unbiased commission will scrutinise complaints against corruption. Dr Naseem said a commission will be set up comprising persons of moral integrity from public or private sector who will assess the complaints and refer them to investigation agencies including NAB, FIA, and anti-corruption establishments. He said the commission will have wide ranging powers to check corruption.
Dr Farogh Naseem said the draft law is part of the government's drive to expose and root out corruption from the society.
Replying to a question, the minister said commission will work impartially and on non-partisan basis.
