Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said that over 50 people will be imprisoned for committing acts of corruption. The federal minister has been in hot water over his controversial statement made recently wherein he claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif will be put behind bars again.
Following Fawad's contentious statement, Nawaz Sharif's counsel urged an accountability court in Islamabad to take notice of the statement that renders the credibility of the courts void.
"Khawaja Haris is a senior lawyer and he had not taken millions of rupees as fee, he would have also agreed that Nawaz should be sentenced," said the minister.
"It is unfortunate that such foolproof cases take years to wrap up. The opposition has neither leadership nor vision while only politics to save money is taking place," he added.
On the other hand, Nawaz's counsel Advocate Zubair Khalid told the accountability court hearing corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif that "a minister has said that the former premier will 100% go to prison again. The decision is yet to be announced, so how he knew that Nawaz will be sentenced".
Meanwhile, the Information minister in a video message said that all attempts by opposition parties to make a unified front against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will go in vain.
He made it clear that the government has no objection over All Parties Conference (APC), saying, "Opposition can call as many APCs as it wishes, it does not make any difference."
He said that sole purpose of the government is to develop Pakistan and eliminate corruption and the accountability process will continue indiscriminately countrywide.
Targeting his political opponents, he retorted that those who had been involved in white collar crimes, their faces have grown pale with fear. "People who have not done any wrong should not be scared," he added.
