Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday asked the government to disclose names of those people who are seeking 'national reconciliation ordinance (NRO)'. While talking to media persons outside the Accountability Court, Nawaz Sharif urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to show moral courage and reveal the names of those who are seeking an 'NRO' from the government. No member of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has contacted the government for any NRO, he said.
He said he held a meeting with Emir Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman but he does not want to disclose the outcome of the meeting before media. "I will share the details of the meeting with my party members and President PML-N Shehbaz Sharif," he added.
About the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif, he said he had worked day and night. "No other chief minister in the country's history has worked the way Shahbaz did," he claimed, saying Shahbaz deserves praise but he is in custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He said that Shahbaz was summoned by the NAB in the Saaf Pani case and when nothing could be proved against him he was arrested in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme case. Now, the NAB is not finding any evidence against him in the housing case so they have started to say that he owns assets beyond known sources of income, he elaborated.
He said that media has been asking various questions from him but "I am going through very hard time after the sad demise of Kulsoom Nawaz. So far, we have failed to bring ourselves back to the political activities."
Earlier, Sharif appeared before the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik regarding the hearing of Flagship Investments reference but the court allowed him to leave after sometime.
Defence counsel Khawaja Haris during the cross-examination asked different questions from Wajid Zia, key prosecution witness and head of joint investigation team (JIT) that probed the Panama Papers case.
Zia said that the letter of credit was attached to the civil miscellaneous application (CMA) No 432 which claimed that machinery had been transported from Al-Azizia Steel Mills for setting up of Ahli Steel Mills. Before sending the mutual legal assistance (MLA) request, it had come into the notice of the JIT that machinery from Al-Azizia Steel Mills was transported from Sharjah to Jeddah and not from Dubai to Jeddah, he said.
