Vice President of FPCCI and patron-in-chief of All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) Waheed Ahmed has sent comprehensive proposals to Adviser to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs, Commerce, Industry and Investment, Abdul Razaq Dawood, for strengthening horticulture trade between Pakistan and China.
The adviser Abdul Razaq Dawood had sought proposals for the development of horticulture sector and an easy access of Pakistani fruits and vegetables to Chinese markets.
During his visit to China, Prime Minister Imran Khan would discuss with concerned Chinese authorities the steps to be initiated for uplift of horticulture sector In light of these suggestions.
"There exists bright chances for betterment of the horticulture trade between the two countries," Waheed said, adding that export of Pakistani fruits, vegetables and value-added products can be enhanced to US$1 billion by availing opportunity of One Belt One Road scheme under CPEC Project.
The FPCCI's vice president submitted proposed for Research and Development (R&D) in the agriculture sector of the country under which he called for establishment of R&D laboratory at federal level and also in all provinces with Chinese assistance through which transfer of Chinese research and technology in the field of agriculture would be transferred to Pakistan.
The suggestions have also been given for cooperation between Pakistan and China in implementation of agreements in the agriculture sector carried out under OBOR scheme also known as BRI, for development and research among the Ministry of National Food Security, Plant Protection department of China and CABI, an instrumental agri-research based organization. Similarly, for supporting establishment and follow-up activities of BRI (OBOR) and Plant Protection International Consortium (PPIC), Waheed also emphasized on making Pakistan part of International Executive Committee, International Advisory Committee and International Scientific Committee. For betterment of agriculture, he urged both countries for joint efforts to procure funds from regional and international resources for the collaborative projects.
To avail expertise of Chinese in the agriculture sector it has been proposed to enhance opportunities by awarding scholarships to the talented Pakistani students for research and higher education in China and exchange scientists and other experts.
He proposed collaboration of private sectors of both the countries, treatment of agri-related diseases and use of technology to prevent agri-related diseases. It has also been suggested to provide Quarantine facilities in the special economic zones to enhance horticulture trade with China. He proposed to create awareness among Pakistani exporters about Chinese quarantine regulations and export model and also suggested special programmes in this regard. The FPCCI VP proposed that Pakistani agri product should be allowed at all entry ports in China via land and sea routes.
