Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Friday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government on adjournment of the National Assembly session, which was adjourned after a treasury member pointed out lack of the quorum.
The opposition was expecting that the government would take Parliament into confidence over the security situation and protests that erupted after the Supreme Court acquitted Aasia Bibi of blasphemy charges on Wednesday. However, the Parliament session on Friday was adjourned after a member of the treasury bench pointed out that quorum was not complete which irked the opposition.
While addressing a news conference in front of the Parliament House after adjournment of the session of the National Assembly, the PML-N leaders said that the PTI government added a new chapter in the parliamentary history by itself pointing out the quorum.
"We had ensured the government about completing the quorum of the House but it adjourned the House. The government is running away to respond to the questions of opposition members," they said. Former prime minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the whole country is paralysed but the government is making the situation worse by threatening the protesters. He said that opposition has ensured the government that it would not politicise the issue but the government is not serious to resolve it.
He said that mobile phone service and roads in the country have been closed and the lives of the people have been paralysed. PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that the country is facing the situation of uncertainty but the government is not giving any clear policy in this regard. He said that the Prime Minister and ministers are threatening the protesters which will make the situation more complicated.
Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of PPP said, "The whole country is facing uncertainty and we were expecting that the government would brief the opposition on the issue." He was talking to media persons after attending a meeting of opposition parties in the chamber of Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif.
He said, "This is probably the first time that the government pointed out lack of quorum to adjourn the session." The former premier said that it is irresponsible attitude for anyone to drag the army into this controversy. "We second the ISPR director general's stance," he said, adding that the army has nothing to do with the Supreme Court's verdict.
Meanwhile, according to the sources, the opposition on Friday refused to meet with a delegation of PTI government. The sources said that the government wants to take the opposition into confidence on the law and order situation of the country. They said that government wants the support of opposition on this issue.
