Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that during the week under review, prices of some of the vegetables and fruits declined while prices of some went up, and prices of chicken, spices, cooked food items, eggs and other items remained stable.
The traders in Islamabad/Rawalpindi vegetable and fruit markets told this correspondent that over the past four days, prices of all the fruits and vegetables increased due to protests. Onions price went slightly up from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg in the wholesales market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg. Potatoes price came down from Rs 180 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg, while sweet potatoes' price went up from Rs 90 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 25 per kg. Tomatoes price remained stable at Rs 220 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50-60 per kg.
Prices of various qualities of garlic came down from Rs 500-650 per 5kg to Rs 450-600 per 5kg, which in retail market were being sold at Rs 100-130 per kg against Rs 120-140 per kg, ginger price went down from Rs 1,000 to Rs 850 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 240 per kg. Lemon price was found stable at Rs 500 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
Wheat flour price remained stable at Rs 780 per 20kg bag, egg price was found stable at 120 per dozen and likewise no change was observed in the price of live chicken which was available at Rs 4,800 per 40kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 155-160 per kg and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 250 per kg.
Prices of all the major pulses remained stable as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 160 per kg while its normal quality at Rs 130 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 160 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 130 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
Sugar price came down from Rs 2,750 to Rs 2,700 per 50kg bag which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 62 per kg. No change was witnessed in prices of powdered milk (Everyday and Nido), packed spices and rice.
Ghee/cooking oil prices remained also stable as normal quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 140 per 900 grams pack, while best quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 990 per 5 litres tin.
Capsicum price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100 per kg; price of yam (arvi) went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg; local carrot price further went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 220 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
Bean price went up from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 475 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 110-120 per kg against Rs 100-110 per kg, okra price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, and ridge gourd (tori) price went further down from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 280 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg.
Local tinda price remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg, while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 70 per kg. Cauliflower price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg and cabbage price went down from Rs 180 to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
Peas' price went up from Rs 1,100 per 5kg to Rs 1,200 per 5kg which in retail marker were being sold at Rs 260 per kg against Rs 250 per kg. Karela (bitter gourd) price went up from Rs 270 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail marker was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against 70 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed an increase as Gaja apple was available at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 80 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kolo apple at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, golden apple at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, and Ambri apple was available in the range of Rs 60-80 per kg.
Local good quality banana was available at Rs 80 per dozen against Rs 70 per dozen, normal quality banana was being sold in the range of Rs 50-55 per dozen, guava price remained stable as good quality guava was being sold at Rs 80 per kg and its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 50-55 per kg.
Various qualities of grapes were being sold in the range of Rs 120-200 per kg. Sweet orange at Rs 120 per dozen, new arrival orange in the range of Rs 100-90 per dozen, Japanese fruit at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 70-80 per kg, and Kandhari pomegranate was being sold in the range of Rs 120-150 per kg.
