Program Coordinator Social Protection Unit (SPU), Social Welfare Department Muhammad Issa Memon said that under the World Bank supported Accelerated Action Plan (AAP), the Health and Nutrition Conditional Cash Transfer (H&NCCT) intervention would be started soon in Tharparkar and Umerkot districts.
He said that through this initiative, SPU will provide the conditional cash to those pregnant and lactating women, who were registered in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). This he said while speaking in introductory meetings with Tharparkar and Umerkot Deputy Commissioners held in their respective offices respectively. He said for receiving cash, the women have to come at nearest government health facilities to get them registered through a Lady Health Worker or Lady Health Visitor.
He elaborated that in the first phase the eligible women would get Rs 1500 on every three months and later on, they would be paid additional amount on safe delivery, birth registration, and on routine immunization separately on each activity. "The conditional cash support will help the target group to improve their health and social indicators", he added.
He said that SPU intervention of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) have been started in both districts Tharparkar and Umerkot as a pilot project, then it would be extended in other districts of the province as per policy and direction by the Government of Sindh. He said the cooperation of respective district administrations, Health, PPHI, livestock, and other relevant departments would be needed to support the SPU intervention.
