K-Electric Limited (KE) on Monday inaugurated the 6th KE Lyari Football League, organized in association with District Football Association South, which will be held from November 12 to 22, 2018, featuring 16 teams. The opening ceremony was held, amid great fanfare, at the KPT Sports Complex. A total of 16 teams having 320 participants are competing in this edition of the Lyari League. The teams are divided into four groups; each group consists of four teams with 18 players and 2 members of the coaching staff in each team. The league matches will be played at the Kakri Football Ground in Lyari.
Commenting at the occasion, the esteemed chief guest of the event, Mushtaq Chapra, Director and Founder, The Citizen Foundation (TCF) said, "With 16 TCF schools already present in Lyari including the largest campus in TCF fleet, the Cowasjee Campus, it gives us immense pleasure to commemorate the 6th edition of the renowned "KE Lyari Football League". It is overwhelming to see that the previous edition of this league has produced players who are today representing Pakistan at the national level, and we expect the same exposure for these young and energetic players today."
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Moonis Abdullah Alvi, Chief Executive Officer, KE said, "As an organization that strives for the betterment of the city and its extremely talented youth, KE has invested in this League which has now become an annual feature in Lyari. It's a great way of keeping these youngsters engaged in healthy activities while also providing them with a platform to showcase their talent on the football pitch."
The KE Lyari League is a pioneering effort from KE as it was initiated to promote football among the under-privileged youth of Pakistan. The idea was to provide the football-loving youth of Lyari with a positive platform to showcase their skills. The previous five editions of the league have provided a platform to more than 1,400 children from the Lyari locality. Of these 1,400 children, 38 players from the KE Lyari League have gone on to represent Pakistan at various national and international levels to date.
The final match of the tournament will be played on November 22, 2018 which will be followed by the closing and the prize distribution ceremony.-PR
