This November, Lahore will host senior representatives from the international cement sector as the city welcomes INTERCEM, a major international cement production and trading conference and exhibition for the first time. The meeting is being held in association with the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers' Association (APCMA)
Cement plays a vital role in our everyday lives. As the key ingredient in concrete it is used to build our roads, homes, schools, airports and hospitals, it is essential to modern cities, and is the second-most consumed commodity by volume after water. It is also used as a barometer of economic growth.
Throughout 2017, Pakistan was one of the world's best performing cement markets in terms of demand growth (up 15.42% in the last financial year), which has led to huge investment in new production capacity across the country. In addition to supplying the local market, Pakistan's manufacturers export cement and clinker to more than seventeen countries across South and Central Asia, the Indian Ocean, the GCC and East Africa.
The event
INTERCEM will feature a wide range of presentations, market analysis and discussion from industry professionals covering the latest developments in cement production and trade in both Pakistan and other key regional markets.
Speaking at the launch of INTERCEM LahoreMalcolm Shelbourne, Chief Executive, INTERCEM said:
We are delighted to bring INTERCEM to Pakistan for the first time. Cement is an essential element in both infrastructural and socio-economic development and Pakistani cement industry will play a central role in the realisation of economic development programmes, and other ambitious infrastructure projects across the country.
We are very grateful for the support of our local industry partners who have been influential in helping make these arrangements. "
Farid Fazal, Senior Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Cement Association said:
"We are delighted to welcome INTERCEM and our friends from across the international cement community to Lahore later thisyear. Hosting an important regional conference, such as INTERCEM, is a recognition of the international standing of our industry and I would cordially invite all those connected with the cement sector in Pakistan, and our international colleagues, to join us for this important meeting."
