The fourth Faiz International Festival kicked off at Alhamra Hal here on Friday with two performances including "An Evening with Tahira Syed named Yaad Ki Rah Guzar" and "A Play by Ajoka Theatre named Kaala Mainda Bhesa" dedicated to Madeeha Gohar.
Besides, an event featuring Shabana Azmi, Salima Hashmi, Adeel Hashmi and Mira Hashmi took place in which spoke about friendship between the two progressive poets Kaifi Azmi and Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Likewise, an exhibition was also part of Friday's events. All events are free and open for all except for Tahira Syed, Tina Sani and Zia Mohiuddin's performances.
The Faiz International Festival is an amalgamation of music, art and literature. It brings for the audience theater performances, musical evenings, film shows, art exhibitions, discussions, folk nights and much more. More than 100 scholars, speakers and panelists are participating in the three day festival while performances by more than 30 national and international artists are also slated to spellbound the audience. Every year, the organizers select certain verses from Faiz Ahmad Faiz's poetry and choose a theme in accordance with that. This year, the gala has been titled 'Parwarish-e-Loh-o-Qalam',
Famous Indian poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar along with her actress wife Shabana Azmi had reached Lahore on Thursday to attend the Faiz International Festival. The couple was warmly welcomed by Faiz Ahmed Faiz's daughters Muneeza Hashmi and Salma Hashmi at the Wagha border.
Artists who are expected to grace the event with their presence and exchange their views on the subjects of the festival include Javed Sheikh, Samina Pirzada, Sania Saeed, Samiya Mumtaz, Saba Qamar, Imran Abbas, Samina Ahmed, Simi Raheel, Zeba Bakhtiyar and Irfan Khoosat while Shabana Azmi is also expected to join for a session at the much anticipated festival. The closing act will be 'Hum Dekhain Gay' by Tina Sani on the eve of November 18.
