Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought the report from Chief Secretary after Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) submitted the report claiming to spend Rs 290 million funds on the uplift work in various districts of the province.
The division bench of the SHC, headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh resumed the hearing on the petition, filed by Roshan Lakhan, a resident of District Ghotki, seeking the details of funds of oil & gas companies for development of various areas as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the light of an order of Supreme Court, which the petitioner stated is not being implemented.
During the previous hearing of the case, the court had sought the details of last 14 years from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) about development works carried out in various district of province. PPL's counsel submitted the details of the development work company undertook in the various districts of the province in the light of orders of apex court.
In 2013, Supreme Court (SC) directed oil & gas companies to carryout the development work in the areas of Sindh where these companies have been exploring oil & gas as well as measures for the skill development of workforce recruited locally.
In its report, the PPL informed the court that it has been paying the funds to Sindh Government from its profit, which is deposited in a joint account of the provincial government and PPL. Following the directives of apex court in 2013, the PPL gave Rs 290 million to Sindh Government, which is responsible for undertaking the development work, the report revealed and added that this amount is spent under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of the district.
The bench, however, showed dissatisfaction over the report of the PPL and directed the Chief Secretary Sindh to submit the report in the next hearing after Additional Advocate General Sindh sought the time from the bench to submit this report. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till December 04, 2018.
Meanwhile, a division bench of the SHC sought the reply from Secretary Universities & Boards about the delay in the announcement of results. The court directed Secretary to submit the reply on December 12 when it will resume the hearing on the petition, filed by former Additional Secretary Sindh Nazeer Ahmed Dhon, who stated that delay in the announcement of the results caused the students dearly in the form of lapse of one year. He prayed the court to make universities and educational boards bound to announce the results within 120 days after holding of examinations.
