At least 31 people were killed and 33 others injured in a bomb explosion in Juma Bazaar (Friday Market) in Kalaya town of Orakzai tribal district on Friday. The bomb planted in a motorcycle parked near main gate of a religious seminary situated in Juma Bazar went off with a big bang, killing 31 and injuring 33 others, said an official of the district administration.
The officials of the rescue, administration and security agencies rushed to the site and carried out relief and rescue activities. The security forces sealed all the entry and exit points to the spot of the incident and launched search operation to nab the perpetrators of the remote control blast.
The district administration declared emergency in the hospitals of Orakzai and Hangu districts. The injured were rushed to the local hospitals while eight critically wounded were shifted to Kohat and Peshawar hospitals.
The official informed that people were busy in shopping of warm clothes and woollies when the explosion occurred amidst the crowd. The official sources informed that the law enforcing agencies had issued threat alerts about the subversive activity in the area.
Meanwhile, Governor KP Shah Farman and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan have strongly condemned the bomb blast at Kalaya Bazaar, Orakzai and said that miscreants were frustrated due to peace restored in the tribal district.
Targeting the innocent people was inhumane act, they said. The governor and the chief minister put on high alert the district hospitals for providing quick medical treatment to the injured of the blast.
They also offered Fateh for the departed souls of the blast and expressed profound grief and sorrow with their families. They also prayed for early recovery of the injured.
The Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Jalal and Chief Minister GB Hafiz Hafeez ur Reman have strongly condemned the blast at Juma Bazaar.
ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan in a statement expressed his grief and sorrow over precious loss of life in Orakzai bomb blast. He said that terrorist incidents have been happening frequently, undermining efforts to wipe out terrorism and extremism from the country.
He underlined the need for implementation of 20-points of National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit to prevent such heinous attacks by eliminating menace of terrorism.
He said all political parties should rise above their expediencies and make collective efforts for achieving durable peace. He said that efforts against terrorism and extremism should be taken indiscriminately.
