Prices of pulses, chicken meat, eggs, vegetable and other essential food items have increased in the retail market, said in a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. The survey noticed Rs 10 to 20 per kilogram increase in price of pulses/food grains witnessed in retail market.
Traders and shopkeepers in the provincial capital have attributed that the prices have increased due to current increase of petroleum prices, imposition of new taxes and devaluation of local currency against the dollar. While, the buyers have complained that the prices are completely out from their purchasing power.
Good quality rice (sela) is being available at Rs150-160 per kilogram against the price of Rs 140 per kilogram in the previous week, the survey said. Also, it added that the price of toota rice has increased at Rs80 per kilogram which was selling at Rs70 per kilogram in retail market.
Similarly, according to the survey, price of one-kilogram dal mash has increased at Rs 140 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs130 per kilogram in retail market, while Dal channa priced at Rs130 per kg, against rate Rs110 per kg, dal masoor available at Rs120 per kg against the price of Rs100 per kilogram.
The survey further said the dal chilka (green) is being sold at Rs118 per kg against the price of Rs110 per kg, while Dal chilka (black) was priced at Rs160 per kg in the retail market. Moonge is being sold at Rs110 per kg against the price of Rs110 per kilogram.Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs140 per kilogram against the price of Rs120 per kilogram in retail market.
Big-size white channa is being sold at Rs 150 per kilogram against the price of Rs 140 per kilogram in the previous week. White lobiya in the retail market is being available at Rs 130 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 120 per kilogram in the last week. Red bean locally produced is being available at Rs160 per kilogram while Chinese red-bean priced at Rs120 per kg.
The survey noticed that a slight increase in price of sugar as available at Rs57 per kilogram against the rate of Rs54 per kilogram in the previous week. Gram flour (baisen) priced at Rs 120 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 110 per kilogram in the previous week. A considerable increase in prices of wheat flour was witnessed in retail market, as available at Rs50-52 per kilogram which was selling at Rs45 per kilogram in the previous week.
Prices of cooking oil/ghee of different brand/quality are remained unchanged in the retail market as available within range of Rs150-170 and Rs170 per litre/kg. Yogurt is being sold at Rs100-110 per kilogram, fresh milk at Rs120 per litre. According to the survey, price of chicken meat was remained high-side as available at Rs203 per kilogram. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs120-130 while other at Rs250 per dozen. t added cow meat is available at Rs450 per kg against the official rate of Rs300 per kg, while mutton beef priced at Rs750 and Rs800 per kg in retail market.
Price of tomato has decreased at Rs25-30 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs40 per kilogram, while rates of onion remained high side as available at Rs40 and Rs50 per kilogram in local market. Ginger is being sold at Rs 240 per kilogram, Chinese garlic available at Rs 160 per kilogram while locally produced garlic available at Rs40 per kilogram. Cucumber available at Rs40 per kilogram, showing an decrease of Rs10 per kilogram in retail market. Lemon is being sold at Rs80 per kg.
Peas price had decreased at Rs 100 per kilogram from Rs 250 per kilogram in retail market. Also, a slight decrease was witnessed in price of capsicum as available at Rs 70 per kilogram against the rate of Rs 100 per kg in the previous week. Arvi priced at Rs40 per kilogram, cauliflower at Rs30 per kilogram, cabbage at Rs40 per kg. Bringer is being sold at Rs 30 per kilogram, turnip at Rs 20 per kg. Apple gourd, bottle gourd and ridge gourd prices range between Rs50-80 per kg in retail market.
The survey witnessed that the price of fresh seasonal red-potato has gone up at Rs90 per kilogram from Rs70 per kg, while white-coloured old potato available at Rs40 per kilogram in retail market. The fruits are staple food, which being completely out from purchasing of power of the common man, as prices are sky-high in the retail market.
According to the survey, golden apples are being sold at Rs 80, grapes at Rs120 and Rs150 per kg, guava at Rs 80 per kg, persimmon at Rs60 per kilogram, pomegranate at Rs 150 per kilogram, banana is being sold at Rs 50-60 per dozen in the retail market.
