The Supreme Court has sought details of land allegedly grabbed by Malik Mansha Ali Khokhar-widely known as Mansha 'Bomb'-from the city authorities as it resumed hearing of a petition against the alleged land grabber here at the court's Lahore Registry on Sunday.
A two-judge bench headed by chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the petition of an overseas Pakistani against police's purported inaction against Mansha, who is accused of possessing billions of rupees' worth of illegally acquired land, He was wanted by the law enforcement agencies in over 90 cases of land encroachment, firing at the police, murder and attempted murder.
The bench sought a detailed report from the Lahore Development Authority, the revenue department and the district government on the recovery of land from Mansha and its return to the rightful owners. During the hearing District Commissioner Lahore informed the court that the LDA had yet to hand over land to the petitioners recovered from Mansha. Earlier, on Saturday, the court had directed authorities concerned to hand over the lands recovered from grabber to their real owners in a week's time.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, in his remarks during the course of hearing, questioned under which law the "patwar circle" was working and what the role of the revenue department was pertaining to residential areas.
