National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued hundreds of National Identity Cards (NICs) to aliens and personnel of intelligence agency of Afghanistan.
"Hundreds of Afghan intelligence persons have Pakistan ID cards and they have passports and even they also have Indian visas. The NADRA also issued ID cards to many Tajik people. The NADRA has not blocked their cards so far," Chairman Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood expressed these views while addressing the media persons after an in-camera meeting of the committee on Wednesday.
Showing the documents containing names and some pictures of people of the intelligence agencies of the foreign countries, which were issued ID cards, Senator Talha Mehmood said that it is a very serious issue and the committee handed over all documents to Intelligence Bureau (IB) for investigation and asked it to submit a detailed and comprehensive report in the next meeting of the committee.
Answering a question, he said that around 150 Tajik people were issued national identity cards. He also claimed that some Afghan people who were issued ID cards are also working for Indian inelegance agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
He claimed that the RAW is damaging the image of Pakistan and Indian generals are also issuing statements against Pakistan.
He said why the NADRA is not blocking the ID cards of these people, while it is blocking cards of Pakistanis.
The committee chairman said that the Inter-Services Intelligence had also given lists of aliens to the NADRA for verification but it did not take action on it. He said that the IB would also examine why the NADRA did not implement the directions of the ISI.
Answering a question, Senator Talha said that the people who had issued such ID cards are not under arrest.
Senator Talha said that the IB has a special wing for the security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said that the IB is playing an important role in this regard. He said that the IB also briefed the committee about the security measures for the CPEC.
Senator Talha said that the incidence of terrorism in the country has been reduced but it is not completely eliminated. "Our law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies should be strengthened to eradicate terrorism completely from the country. Our military and intelligence agencies are effectively working in this regard," he said.
About the Safe City Project of Islamabad, Senator Talha said that almost 1,900 CCTV security cameras worth $ 150 million were installed by one foreign company without any bidding. The security cameras are not working well while their values is not more than $ 25 million to $ 30 million. He said there should have been proper bidding for this project.
He said that the committee has also asked the relevant authority to investigate this case and submit a report to the committee.
Senator Talha said that Director General (DG) IB Dr Mohammad Suleman Khan, deputy director general Federal Investigation Agency and officials of NADRA participated in the meeting.
He said that the officials briefed the committee about security of the country and the CPEC, issuance of ID cards and performance of their departments.
