Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology Wednesday expressed concern over the sale of substandard and unhygienic cooking oil and its use in restaurants and confectionary items. Chairman of the Committee Senator Mushtaq Ahmad while presiding over the meeting of the standing committee observed that the cooking oil being manufactured allegedly from the offal and other remains of the dead animals is sold at lower prices in the markets.
He said that cooking oil is being used in unhygienic foods items which are being supplied to the market while the authorities concerned are acting like silent spectators.
He said that the adults generally and children particularly are suffering from different diseases due to use of such substandard cooking oils. He instructed the department concerned to take steps in this regard to immediately stop the sale of the unhygienic cooking oil and protect the public from diseases caused due to these substandard cooking oils.
