The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association bought 110,000 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender on Wednesday, European traders said on Thursday. The wheat was bought in two consignments for shipment in 2019 from the US Pacific Northwest coast with a variety of different wheat types purchased.
The first consignment for shipment between Jan. 22 and Feb. 5 involved 29,795 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $259.26 a tonne FOB US Pacific Northwest coast. The seller was Japanese trading house Itochu.
The first consignment also included 18,910 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $255.62 a tonne FOB from US trading group CHS and 6,295 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $235.29 a tonne FOB, also from CHS, they said.
The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $27.69 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.
The second consignment is for shipment between Feb. 7 and Feb. 21 and was all sold by US trading house Columbia Grain.
The second consignment involved 31,515 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $258.62 a tonne FOB, 18,955 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $255.30 a tonne FOB, and 4,530 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $232.73 a tonne FOB. The second consignment has an additional freight charge of $27.93 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.
