Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that Railways earned Rs 260 million last week while this week it reached Rs 450 million. While addressing a press conference here at the Railways Headquarters, the Minister said that people were opting for advanced bookings which show their trust and confidence in railways.
He hoped that the nation will soon hear good news about expansion and reconstruction of Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar railway track which will start from December 31. "Prime Minister Imran Khan, Finance Minister and Planning Minister will finalize the modalities and make announcement before December 31," he said. "The PR ministry is mulling similar expansion of ML-2 and ML on war footing basis." "We are focusing on freight train improvement." Number of freight trains will be increased up to 15 during the running month, the Minister claimed. Rehman Baba Express train will be started from December 23 from Peshawar Cantt via Noshehra , Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, TT Sigh, Multan, Nawabshah and the passengers will have to pay only 675 rupees. On the first day of its operation, there will be 50 percent discount on all its classes, the Minister maintained.
Talking about the political situation in the country, Sheikh Rasheed claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Shahbaz Sharif is "dying" for an NRO. Referring to imprisonment of Shahbaz Sharif, he said: "If I am to live in a prison, I will not even try getting bail."
About PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, he once again accused him of toeing foreign agenda as he handed over Mumbai Attacks accused Ajmal Kasab to India. About the recent resignations and accusation of corruption against sitting ministers, Sheikh Rasheed said the PTI leaders and ministers "if involved in wrongdoings" should be punished severely as they are in government.
About Azam Swati's resignation, he said Swati should be lauded instead of maligning by the media for taking a commendable step of tendering his resignation. He also claimed that the premier had asked him to hold the portfolio of information minister.
Talking about Fawad Chaudhry, who is currently on London tour, Rashid asserted that he has been enjoying picnic in London for the last eight days. "I have asked him to return."
