Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) Central President Chaudhry Nisar has severely criticized the government for not ensuring operation of sugar mills despite repeated promises. He said that mistrust of the masses in the government is increasing due to repeated violation of its promises.
He expressed these views while talking to delegations of sugarcane growers which met him in the KBP office on Wednesday. These delegations came from different sugarcane growing districts of the province. He said the government issued various dates for start of crushing season but always backed off from its promise. Prime Minister Imran Khan also announced for early start of crushing and payment of arrears to growers after their protest demonstration but this promise was also not materialized.
The KBP President said the government was helpless before the sugar millers and people have no more trust in rulers. He said sugarcane crushing season as per Cane Act should have been started from November 01 but it is yet to be started because of influence of the millers. He said the growers are protesting everywhere for crushing season and recovery of their arrears. Wheat sowing has also been delayed and now farmers have no other option but to intensify their protest.
