Futuristic ‘self-driving hotels’ could modernize transport
In order to utilize the time wasted during travelling, a design studio has come with a solution to make self-driving hotel suite, combining autonomous driving technology and comfort of a hotel room.
Toronto-based design studio Aprilli put forward a concept of ‘Autonomous Travel Suite’ through which it will offer customers the ease and comfort of a hotel room where they can sleep, work and eat, all while the suite being autonomously driven.
According to Aprilli, the autonomous pod is equipped with the basic sleeping, working, and washroom facilities, letting guests to use their travel time more efficiently and productively. The pod can be easily called up with the help of an app.
The pods are designed to carry guests on journeys of between six and 10 hours. The guests would be provided with a bed, a work space, small bathroom, tiny kitchen, and an entertainment zone for watching movies and gaming, while their ‘hotel room’ makes its way to the desired destination with the help of solar panels to harness energy.
The firm sees its Autonomous Travel Suite to a part of a much bigger ‘network of hotel facilities’ where individual pods can dock to offer clients even more amenities. For instance, the pod can be connected to a ‘parent suite’ for form an integrated unit providing overnight stays and shared amenities like swimming pools, restaurants, gym and meeting rooms, as per CNN.
